What We Need and Why

Product data can be the most important thing in the quest for creating a new ecommerce website or revitalizing the one that you have. The product data that goes with your products is what sells your product and the more descriptive and accurate we can be with that data the better your products will sell.

If you are coming from an existing ecommerce system this can be a simple export from your system into a CSV file or other format. Some consideration that you may want to think about with this method are the images and the existing URLs. These 2 items may need some extra attention because we will need to add those images and we will need to make sure that redirects are set up to maintain your standing in the search engines.

If this is your first site we are going to need to do a little more work. There are multiple ways for us to help you with this based on where you are getting your data.

• Excel files – Great
• Access Database – Great
• PDF Documents – Ok
• Websites – Ok
• Crumpled up napkins – Not good, but we can do it

Of course the better the initial form of data is the better for you on $$

What

• Product SKU – Please look into the generation of a good SKU and why you need this
• Product Names – most all products that we see have at very least a name, but what’s in a name? Many times we see names that make sense to the manufacturer or the distributor, but maybe not the customer. We have the ability to work with you on names!
• Product Description – A good description of your product will help your customers find and identify the exact product that they need. This is also a big plus in terms of SEO, the more specific you can be about your product the better it will rank
• Attributes – Attributes are very specific to this exact product and should be broken out into their own fields whenever possible. Attributes enable the customer to look for a part by size, color, diameter, fuzzieness, or whatever. They should always be the descriptive field and the value (ex. Size – 10in)
• ??? – Add an extras column and we can help you figure it out. Better to have too much information than not enough

How We Work

All of our consultants work on an hourly basis and their hourly wage is based on the skill that we need to get you the best product data for your site. What skills are needed? We deal a lot with Excel and all of our people are extremely proficient. We may also need to work with Web scrapers and database engineers that may be a bit more expensive, but usually their work is shorter in length. It all depends on the data we get in the beginning and the amount of work that we need to do to get it into the format that you need. We also offer the ability to work with you on Names and Descriptions to distinguish you from your competition.
